ULTRASONIC CLEANING

Ultrasonic Vinyl Record Cleaning in London

Gentle cleaning of vinyl records using the HumminGuru NOVA ultrasonic cleaner. The cleaning is contactless: ultrasound removes dust, dirt and static from the grooves.

Standard cleaning — £4 per record

Standard cleaning is one Quick or Deep cycle, depending on the record’s condition. For heavy dirt we offer deep (£10) and intensive (£20) cleaning after inspection and agreement. Usually 1–2 working days for standard and deep cleaning, 2–3 for intensive — counted once your records have reached us and the treatment has been agreed.

DEEP CLEAN

What Ultrasonic Cleaning Removes

Contactless cleaning reaches where brushes and cloths cannot

Dust and dirt

Decades of dust settle deep in the micro-grooves and cause constant crackle. Ultrasound lifts it out of the groove itself, not just off the surface.

Grease and fingerprints

Skin oils attract more dirt and dull the sound. The cavitation bath dissolves grease without any abrasive contact.

Static electricity

A static charge attracts fresh dust minutes after cleaning. Wet ultrasonic cleaning removes the charge along with the dirt.

Old residue

Residue from worn inner sleeves and previous wet cleanings builds a film on the record. It comes off in the bath, not onto your stylus.

THE PROCESS

How the Cleaning Works

Cavitation: millions of microscopic bubbles do the work

01

Bath

The record rotates slowly in a bath of deionised water (HYDROFYX Deionised Water: demineralised, low conductivity). The label stays above the waterline.

02

Cavitation

An ultrasonic transducer creates millions of microscopic bubbles that collapse inside the grooves and lift out dirt without touching the vinyl.

03

Drying

The record is dried in the HumminGuru NOVA itself and goes straight into a fresh anti-static inner sleeve.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe for old records?

For standard vinyl records, yes: ultrasonic cleaning is contactless — only water and ultrasound touch the groove. For deep and intensive cleaning we may first clean the record by hand with the HumminGuru I-Brush and alcohol-free fluid, if needed. We inspect every record when it arrives and may decline any treatment we consider unsafe for it. We do not currently accept shellac (78 rpm) records or acetates.

Will it fix scratches?

No. Cleaning removes dirt, grease and static — it cannot repair mechanical damage. But a large share of what sounds like wear is actually dirt, and it disappears after the bath.

Should I clean before digitisation?

We recommend it: clicks caused by dirt end up in the digital file. The Cleaning + Digitisation Premium package covers both at £37 per record.

How do I get my records to you?

We can collect in London by prior arrangement: £20 each way in RM, IG and E postcodes, £50 each way elsewhere in London inside the M25. You can also send your records by post or courier at your cost, or hand them over at our address by arrangement.
